Exercise is essential to our health, but still not everyone works out. You don’t have to go to the gym to exercise as there are now plenty of ways to do it. In fact, you can simply walk, run, or do simple stretching routines for about 30 minutes daily as your simple workout. Our fitness-driven world tells us that exercising can give benefits, such as being physically healthier, stronger, looking much better, and even feeling better emotionally and mentally. But if you’ve been exercising and you’re not seeing great results, you’re probably making some mistakes. Here are things you need to know to help improve your workout:
1. Do you stretch?
Some people believe that stretching first before they exercise is helpful in reducing soreness or injuries. But this isn’t true. Reaching for your toes while standing still isn’t useful at all. However, stretching such as walking lunges, butt kicks, or anything where you are moving as you flex is the better option. It will not help reduce soreness, but it will definitely boost flexibility, performance, and results.
2. What’s your favorite workout?
Cardio workouts seem to be popular among many people. But running on the treadmill and heading home after won’t really give you the results you want. Instead, strength and resistance training is more recommended, especially if you’re improving your health. It helps lower risk of developing diabetes, osteoporosis, and depression among others – while giving the same health benefits as cardio.
3. Are you consistent?
Gone are the days when we’re told to be consistent with our workouts. Instead of training for 30 minutes nonstop, interval training is said to be more beneficial. This consists of working out then resting. The ideal interval training has a work interval that is half the length of the rest interval.
4. Do you go on a feast after exercising?
Stop thinking you’re safe to eat more than usual just because you’re exercising. Instead of a large protein shake or a sports drink, go for caffeinated beverage. It’s no secret it will dehydrate you, but if you drink it before you exercise, you will perform better. Of course, if you have hypertension, it’s best to avoid it. Also, you should know what to eat before and after your workout to maximize results.
Whether you’re a beginner or you’re at a more advanced level, you will need to train three to four times a week. But make sure you get plenty of rest between your sessions. For example, if you will train two consecutive days to improve strength, have an off day after those workouts.
