There are times when we would have high blood sugar randomly. This can be dangerous, but it’s not something that can’t be managed. Whatever the reason is, whether we ate a really big meal or had a delicious, sugary dessert, this random problem can be treated without rushing to the doctor. Here are some steps you can take to solve the blood sugar issue right away:

1. Start drinking more water.

You will need to stay hydrated if your glucose levels are high. Drink more water than you normally do or have at least two glasses of water. It’s better if you drink one right after the other. This will help you stabilize your blood sugar in no time.

2. Perform some exercises.

If you don’t know it yet, exercising is the best way to lower your blood sugar levels in an instant. When you exercise, you allow your body to control your glucose in the bloodstream and let it stay in a healthy range. Additionally, when you start sweating, this will get your heart pumping harder. Your blood will flow more and this will use up your blood sugar faster.

3. Eat a snack that’s high in protein.

Protein is a nutrient that can help stabilize the blood sugar levels. It can also slow down glucose absorption rate. If you’re hungrier than you normally would feel, this is a symptom of high blood sugar. Don’t deny yourself with that craving, but make sure you eat the right food, which is a protein-packed snack. Of course, don’t eat anything with very high sugar in it – even if it’s high in protein as well.

4. In your next meal, eat less carbohydrates.

As much as possible, eat at least 15 grams less carbs the next time you eat. Don’t skip your meals; just eat less carbs, which will actually force the body to utilize the extra sugar in your system.

5. Know which ones to eat.

Make sure you don’t eat foods that have high glycemic index, including white potatoes. Go for those with low GI, such as legumes and beans. Even if the food is healthy, if it has high GI, it is not good for you.
