Many of us turn to coffee as our morning beverage and why not? It’s aromatic and gives us a boost of energy. However, there is one that challenges the reigning favorite morning drink and that is the green smoothie. Green smoothies seem like all the rage these days. Several people consume them every day or at least many times a week to become healthier and to “alkalize” their bodies. But are they really a good alternative to coffee?

While coffee is not going anywhere, there are reasons why green smoothies and juices are hot these days. This though is mainly because a glass of smoothie can give you the following benefits:

• Hydrates the body
Let’s not forget that green smoothies are nutritious with absorbable vitamins and minerals, including folate, iron, vitamin D, vitamin K, B vitamins, calcium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, and selenium among many others.
Green Smoothie Disadvantages
While these green smoothies are healthy, it does not mean they are perfect. For those who are used to having coffee, the non-caffeine boost can take a long time for them to get used to the situation. Also, some people experience brain freeze when they consume the cold drink in the morning. The liquid overload may also be too much for them.
It is also worth mentioning that green smoothies are not exactly for people on the budget. There is also research that stated consuming a lot of raw leafy greens can contribute to some serious health problems in people with candida or fungal issues because of the high oxalate levels.
Why Coffee Seems Irreplaceable
Many people who have tried green smoothies for the first time were shocked that they are actually tasty. Still, several individuals still can’t let go of coffee as their morning beverage. Numerous claims about coffee being bad to heart and overall health have existed down the years. However, new studies showed that coffee or caffeine has nothing to do with the increased mortality in men and women. In fact, a research published in the World Journal of Biological Psychiatry in July 2013 said that drinking at least two cups of coffee every day could decrease the likelihood of committing suicide.
Both green smoothies and coffee have their own benefits. While green smoothies are healthy, it is still more recommended to eat whole fruits, particularly those that are low in sugar, such as apples, berries, and pears.
