The man chose black tea, which is rich in oxalate, a chemical that can cause kidney stones when consumed in excessive amounts. As a result, the man will be on dialysis for the most part of his life. Green tea, on the other hand, is considered the healthiest beverage, even beating water in some medical books and journals. However, excessive intake, especially for those who are sensitive to caffeine may cause insomnia. Additionally, both green and black teas have tannins, which decrease folic acid absorption, which is why it is advised that pregnant women avoid drinking teas.
Negative Effects of Consuming a Lot of Coffee
Coffee is probably the world’s favorite beverage, but too much of it in the system can cause the following:
- Increased heart rate
- Reflux or heartburn
- Spasms as well as muscle twitches
- May cause confusion and stammering
- Diuresis or causing the kidneys to generate more waste than usual
- Heart palpitations
- Gastrointestinal troubles
Healthy adults are recommended to have no more than 400mg of caffeine every day. This is equivalent to about four cups of brewed coffee, two energy drinks, or 10 cans of soda.
Juice, tea, and coffee are beverages some people cannot live without. The sugars in juices though make people crave, just like caffeine in tea and coffee. By setting a limit, you can enjoy your favorite drinks while making sure you still get their benefits.
