Why Eating Yogurt is Good for Your Health

Most of us already know that yogurt is a healthy food. Yogurt is simply fermented milk; that is, it has been turned sour for a deliberate purpose. You can tell it is milk except that it has that distinct sour taste. Because it is healthy, there are some people who make it a point to eat yogurt every day. Some even make their own yogurt at home, so that they can choose the ingredients well. If you aren’t a huge fan of yogurt, here are reasons why you should start adding it to your diet:

1. For the Skin

If you’re short on a budget, you don’t have to go to a dermatologist to treat your face. Yogurt is rich in lactic acid, which is used in commercial peeling products. Simply apply onto your face and yogurt will exfoliate the top layer of the skin. This will help clear discolorations and blemishes. Lactic acid is also useful in reducing fine lines.

2. For Hypertension

For people with hypertension or high blood pressure, eating dairy products, such as yogurt, can help lower BP levels. Yogurt contains special proteins, along with calcium, potassium, and magnesium, which all contribute to the positive effect.

3. For Weight Loss

If you have been having trouble losing weight, maybe it’s time to change your game plan. You can eat 18 ounces of yogurt every day to lose weight. A research from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville showed that people who ate that much yogurt, along with reduced calorie intake, were able to lose a whopping 81% more bely fat and 22% more weight than those who skipped yogurt.

4. For Workout Recovery

Yogurt, especially Greek yogurt can help you recover quickly after an intensive workout session. You will need the right ratio of carbohydrates to protein to achieve this and yogurt can help your muscles repair themselves.

5. For Immunity

You will need just four ounces of yogurt each day and you will have a stronger immune system. It will be much easier for you to fight colds, particularly during winter. This is especially helpful in women, so that they can battle diseases and infections.

Not all yogurt brands are the same. While most contain bacteria that are good for us, there are some that aren’t as loaded with vitamins and minerals. Calcium and vitamin D are especially important, so make sure the yogurt you eat has at least 20% of the recommended daily value for both.
