Live near a tree and have a life that is healthy and worry-free!
If you’re ever looking for a house or an apartment, don’t just consider the price and the amenities of the living space – make sure it also has at least one tree near it.
According to a study by the University of Chicago entitled, “Neighborhood Green Space and Health in a Large Urban Center,” having trees around the neighborhood can help improve physical and mental well-being.
The Benefits of Trees
The study was conducted in a city with more than 530,000 trees, Toronto, Canada where the researchers used data regarding the health of over 30,000 people in the mentioned location. After the research, it was concluded that those who live in areas with more trees have better health condition than those who live at places with no or fewer trees:
- Healthier: Having 10 more trees than average people around their neighborhood can increase your physical condition. These trees are said to contribute to your well-being by helping reduce the instances of diseases, including asthma since trees can suck up pollution effectively. Additionally, many people don’t realize this, but having trees can actually provide the encouragement to start exercising. This is why those who live near parks have the urge to run every morning or whenever they can.
- Safer: People who have trees near their homes feel safer and more secure than those who don’t. This provides stress relief, which also has several benefits, including a healthier heart, a more peaceful mind, and even a sense of contentment.
- Richer: The study also says that living in a place where there are groups of trees around can make you feel richer, as if you were earning additional $10,000 every year. Because of the improved air quality as well as the decreased pollutants, you feel like you live in a high class neighborhood, therefore impacting your work performance.
- Younger: This particular research also says that those who live in spaces with lots of trees feel younger – about seven years younger. This can also be attributed to the clean air, which makes the skin clearer and healthier, leaving you looking more youthful.
Although the results of the study do not exactly say trees can improve physical and mental health of all people, it cannot be denied that they have a huge impact on our well-being. Plus, the trees also leave a beneficial effect to our relationship with the environment and nature. If you live in a city, which has bad air quality, you can actually contribute to everyone’s wellness by planting at least one tree in your block.
