It is embarrassing when you have dandruff. It’s not winter, but you have what looks like snowflakes on your head and perhaps on your shoulders as well. While you can always get rid of dandruff by using over-the-counter dandruff shampoos, there are inexpensive treatments that you can try. These treatments only need items that you already have in your home, so you save money and avoid being embarrassed at public situations.
Vinegar, specifically apple cider vinegar, has long been used as treatment for dandruff problems. This may sound an unappealing solution because you may not be open to the idea of smelling like a salad dressing, but this is very effective. The good news is that the smell will go away when you shower. Instead of using shampoo, you should apply the vinegar on your hair. Rinse it a little, but don’t remove it completely until the next day. Vinegar can act like a fungicide and since one of the causes of dandruff is fungi, you can tell this treatment will help you be dandruff-free.
In a cup of water, add a tablespoon of baking soda. You can also add a few drops of rosemary oil if you want to make the solution a little more fragrant. Make sure that the solution is mixed thoroughly before you apply it on your head in place of shampoo. Do this as regularly as possible. In the beginning, you may feel that your hair is a bit dry, but the natural oils will be restored eventually.
This is probably the most natural of all treatments. There is no scientific evidence that the sun helps you get rid of dandruff, but many people attest to its effectiveness. In many cases, people who are exposed to the sun are less prone to having dandruff. This may be due to the light helping you dry up the excess oil in your hair or perhaps the sun just improves your overall wellbeing which in turn helps your hair and scalp become healthier. It is recommended that you spend at least 10 minutes outside to keep your head dandruff-free. However, make sure that you are protected against the sun’s harmful UV rays when you are out in the sunlight.
Aside from the ones mentioned above, you should also eat healthy. Add some green leafy veggies to your diet, such as broccoli, lettuce, and kale. You should also eat lean proteins, such as nuts, fish, beans, and eggs. You can also take fish oil supplements that can lessen or at least prevent dandruff.
