People who are serious about their health believe tofu is a good and healthy substitute for eggs and meat. Unfortunately, they are not fully aware of the fact that they are consuming commercially produced tofu, which can actually expose you to a lot of health risks.

The answer to this question is short and simple: the manufacturing process. Compared to the people in Asia, people in America don’t eat whole soybean products. What they consume are those that have been produced using food processors, which have the job of generating two products from soybean: oil and protein. Because tofu undergoes a process, it is no longer natural and what’s worse is that it is not safe.
High-tech processing ways can be dangerous to our health. With tofu, these methods don’t remove the toxins and the chemicals that destroy the nutrients that are supposed to be found in soybeans. The ones left in the product are carcinogenic and toxic residues, which come from any of the following

- High pressure
- High temperatures
- Petroleum solvents
With the process that tofu undergoes, it is safe to say that it is not a health food – it is actually far from it. Even in Asia where soybean is consumed regularly, it is considered unsafe to eat. Moreover, 99% of the soy products can be considered as genetically modified. Soy is also among the food products that have the highest amounts of pesticide contamination.

Tofu, which comes from soybeans, has some problems with its content. These include having high concentrations of phytic acid that can be found in the hulls or bran of the soybeans. This substance can dangerously block various minerals that enter the body in the intestinal tract, including:

Because many vegetarians and vegans eat tofu instead of meat and eggs, they undergo a high-soy diet. Eating tofu within a year can actually cause several health problems and these include:
- Thyroid disorder
- Premature puberty
- Brain damage
- Soy allergies
- Reproductive issues
Soy and tofu itself are known for their ability to lower cholesterol. However, some experts disagree. In fact, their studies have shown that soy can raise homocysteine levels in most people. Increased homocysteine levels can result to higher heart attack risk and other coronary heart disease.
Grass-fed meats and organic eggs are actually a much better choice than commercially-produced tofu. Children and babies are susceptible to hormone –mimicking effects produced by soy. Breastfeeding moms are advised to stay away from soy products, which include tofu.
